Kayla Acevedo LCAT, ATR-BC

My approach is compassionate, person-centered, trauma-informed, and collaborative. I integrate traditional talk therapy with art therapy and other creative techniques to help clients express emotions, develop insight, reconnect with themselves, and create meaningful change. You do not need to consider yourself an artist to benefit from art therapy. Our work will be shaped around your individual comfort, needs, and goals.

My Story

Creativity and art helped me discover my purpose. Throughout my undergraduate years, I often turned to art while navigating the many roles I carried; as a student, an employee, a friend, a daughter, etc. Taking time to create gave me a sense of ease and helped quiet the internal static of my worries.

As I experienced major life transitions, including moving away from my childhood home and navigating changes in friendships and relationships, art remained a steady source of support. It gave me a place to clear the internal clutter, explore what I was feeling, and better understand what was at the root of my concerns.

During graduate school, I discovered how meaningful it could be to create alongside others and within a community. Those experiences helped me find a deeper sense of purpose in the work I wanted to pursue. I often thought about the younger version of myself and how much I would have benefited from having access to a community where creativity was encouraged, supported, and celebrated.

Through my lived experience as a Puerto Rican woman, I have also seen how art and creativity are not always prioritized or made accessible within my own and other culturally diverse communities. This is something I hope to help change. I believe everyone deserves access to welcoming spaces, supportive communities, and opportunities to create.

Creative expression is part of human need, and it can play an important role in our emotional well-being. Through Conexión Creative Arts Therapy, my goal is to make creativity more accessible while raising awareness about the importance of connection, cultural identity, and belonging.
